“Roger Hoffman Selchow was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, in 1911.” (1)
“Son of Paul Hoffman and Alice Allen (Mills) South.” (2)
“He studied at Columbia University and became known for his paintings of geometric abstraction after his graduation.” (1)
“After World War II he absorbed the influences of European Modernism, especially the Bauhaus, Constructivism and Cubism, studying in Paris with André Lhote and Fernand Lëger, in Italy at the Istituto Statale d'Arte in Florence, and in Belgium. In Europe, he associated with vanguard artists, writers and poets.” (3)
“Beginning in 1949, he worked in colorful abstractions, and later build [sic] ‘electro Sculptures’ of found objects and electrical parts.” (4)
“Selchow's work is represented in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut, the Brooklyn Museum, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Liège, Belgium, and elsewhere in the United States and Europe.” (3)
“Selchow passed away in 1994.” (1)
