Visit scenes from New York City where Labiosa was born, the Boston area and his beloved Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. This exhibition was organized and curated the artist's son, Wilfred W. Labiosa, PhD

Born in Harlem, New York City, to Puerto Rican parents, Wilfred Labiosa was a pioneering Nuyorican artist whose work and teaching left an indelible mark on Puerto Rican and Caribbean art history. He studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology, the School of American Arts, and Inter American University in Puerto Rico.

His career spanned over five decades, encompassing a wide range of mediums—from textiles and book covers to sculpture, painting, animation, and fine china. He exhibited widely, both locally and internationally, and founded several art galleries, including long-standing spaces in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Labiosa’s work is held in numerous public and private collections across Latin America, Europe, the United States, and the Caribbean. His art blended modernist impulses with deep cultural memory, especially in his celebrated watercolors of Old San Juan and his “Impulsivismo” series, a personal exploration of emotion, memory, and form.

He was also a beloved educator, teaching in institutions throughout Puerto Rico, Massachusetts, and New York, and mentoring generations of artists.
