Gena Seroogy
Artist Bio Born and raised in St. Croix, Gena Seroogy (she/they) is a trauma-informed caregiver and arts enthusiast. Gena is active in the local dance and theater community on stage and behind the scenes with the Caribbean Dance School and the Caribbean Community Theater. After graduating from The Good Hope School, she attended college and worked in nonprofit management in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Feeling homesick and stressed out during the lockdown in 2020, Gena began experimenting making collages using vintage photos and recycled images of St. Croix. In 2022, they moved back home and expanded their art practice to use their own original photography. Their work plays with changing perspective and themes of cliché and commodified depictions of the Caribbean through an anticolonial lens. This is their first exhibit.
