In French the act of integrating in a new culture is referred to as “weaving ties” (tisser des liens). As a textile artist and as an individual who has spend much of her life as an immigrant, I developed this piece, Roots, to express the link between textiles and creating a feeling of home in new places.
The common object in all the places I have lived, is Newspaper. It becomes the link to all the places I have lived in since childhood, and a metaphor for my integration, or rooting, in a new place or a form of nostalgia for the ones I have left behind.
