Joanna Lamb is a well-known Western Australian painter. This is an early example of her long-standing interest in suburban landscapes. Nowadays, her depictions of dwellings are hard-edge minimalist compositions, without brushmarks or perspective, that refer to the flattened imagery found in real estate advertising. However, in this painting, she has allowed the images to emerge from brushmarks that, individually, have little to do with the form of a car or a tree. In that way, it is more aligned with the traditions of painting, rather than those of graphic design.
