Bittersweet — that’s the feeling emerging artist with autism, Christopher Hummel (aka. ‘Graff My Train’), experiences when discussing the METRONET project. Christopher loves trains, and as a Perth local, the Transperth trains hold a special place in his heart. METRONET represents an exciting new frontier for Western Australian train enthusiasts like Christopher; however, with the introduction of the new C-series sets, it also marks the end of an era for the older A-series and B-series sets — the sun is setting on their time serving our rail network.
In Christopher’s paintings, Transperth Fastrak A-series at Perth City Station; The Last Transperth B-series en route to Western Australia; and Transperth METRONET C-series at Nowergup Railcar Depot, he reflects on the arrival of the C-series. While he says he will be sad when the older units are eventually retired, he appreciates that this is the nature of progress. Thankfully, these trains still have plenty of life left in them, so he can continue to enjoy them for years to come. He looks forward to the day he can take his first journey on a brand-new C-series along the freshly laid METRONET passenger lines.
