Tight crop is a tender and playful collage, made up of crunchy textures and saturated colour. I created part of the work by photographing a tightly curled image, which I then printed, cut up and photographed again. This work also includes an image of a newspaper I took in a queer archive. I was struggling to find imagery and writing created by trans and gender diverse people about their own experiences. So instead, I took photographs of the documents awaiting care and inclusion as a way to focus on the tenderness of the materiality and possibility that these items hold. I was interested in the softened frayed edges of these documents and the shapes they were making; tightly curled, collapsing, and slumping over time.
