John Cullinane is a Perth artist who has gained national recognition through his highly individual and quirky narrative paintings. Like the artist Ivan Bray, Cullinane draws on Classical mythology and symbolism in an ongoing exploration of the human condition.

Cullinane’s painting depicts the demigod Prometheus who was forced to endure the punishment of being chained to a rock and have his liver torn out by an eagle. Each night his liver would grow back, and the punishment would continue once more.
