Artist: Richie Kuhaupt
Since completing his Master’s degree (Visual Arts) from Curtin University of Technology in 1995, Richie Kuhaupt has been involved with the Perth arts scene both as an artist, art administrator and in exhibition production. He has participated in nearly 80 group exhibitions and exhibited 18 times with Sculpture by the Sea, including at Bondi, Cottesloe, Albany, Tasmania and Aarhus, Denmark. With collaborator Geoffrey Drake-Brockman, Kuhaupt has exhibited at the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra and Beacon, New York, USA. Kuhaupt has also exhibited in Asago, Japan, which culminated from an Artist Residency and included artist Ron Gomboc.
Complimenting his solo exhibitions, he has collaborated with other artists such as Geoffrey Drake-Brockman, Andrew Clifford Smith, and Bec Dean. His latest solo exhibition will be in October this year at the Moores Building Contemporary Art Gallery. Kuhaupt has completed numerous public art projects including Kooren, a collaboration with Rod Garlett and Chaney Architects, installed in 2017, at Kings Square, Perth and The Little People at College Park, Nedlands in 2010.
Kuhaupt has been employed as a part-time Arts lecturer at Curtin University and Edith Cowan University. Also, as an installation technician with Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, John Curtin Gallery, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts and the Art Gallery of WA. Until 2021 Kuhaupt was the Manager of the Moores Building Contemporary Art Gallery in Fremantle for 15 years.
