Artist: Paul Kaptein
Paul Kaptein’s work is held in several public and private collections including the Brooklyn Art Library, Grafton Regional Art Gallery, City of Wanneroo, City of Joondalup, Edith Cowan University, North Metropolitan TAFE, Horn Collection, New Norcia Museum, Royal Perth Hospital, St Joseph’s College, and the University of Western Australia.
In 2016 Kaptein was commissioned to undertake a major sculptural work depicting Mary and Saint Marcellin Champagnat for St Joseph’s College Chapel, Sydney. In 2020 he received the Syndicate commission to produce a series of life-size sculptures – All These Mountains Melt at Dawn (2021).
Kaptein is the recipient several awards including Stockland Sculpture Prize (Minnawarra Art Award 2018) the Mid-West Art Prize (2015) and the Mandorla Art Award (2014).
Recent solo exhibitions include Mute Transfiguration, Oigall Projects, Melbourne (2023), All these Mountains Will Melt At Dawn, OCH Gallery, Fremantle (2021); Black Holes>Wormholes>Portals+Potholes, Turner Galleries, Perth (2015); Future Perfect, Krause Gallery, New York City, USA (2015).
