Matthew Hunt has held a number of solo exhibitions, including The Side Effect (2011), The Dark Room (2010). Pure Gut Feeling (2009), Falling From Earth (2008) at Dianne Tanzer Gallery & Projects, Melbourne. In Perth, Hunt exhibited Sunshine, Cocktails, Chicken Wings & Trampolines (2009) and Cause I see a light surrounding you so don’t be afraid (2007) at Turner Galleries, Perth. Other solo exhibitions during this period include; End of the Earth (2007), Conical, Melbourne; Backwater, Holmes à Court Gallery, East Perth (2006); Scattered Order (2004), Kaskadenkondensator, Basel, Switzerland; Perch (2001), Imperial Slacks Gallery, Sydney; Civil Savages (2001), West Space, Melbourne and CORE (2000), Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts.

He has also contributed to a number of group exhibitions including a group exhibition at Artroom 5 (2010) Adelaide, Melbourne Art Fair 2010 with Turner Galleries, Take Five Screen Project (2010), (Acquittal Report with Robert Cook), Perth International Arts Festival; Making It New: Focus on Contemporary Australian Art (2009), Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; Persuasion Equation (2009), Linden Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne; Show me your world (2008), Gitte Weise Gallery, Berlin; The Bon Scott Project (2008), Fremantle Arts Centre; Old Skool: never lose that feeling (2008), PICA (2007); PEEP Glimpses of the last four decades of the Kerry Stokes Collection (2007/8), TarraWarra Museum of Art, Melbourne & The Art Gallery of WA; In every dream home a heartache (2007), Sydney College of the Arts Galleries, Sydney; We know who we are: Octopus 6 (2006), Gertrude St Contemporary Space, Melbourne; Mix tape (2005), Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth; and FLUX, uncertain states: new art from Western Australia (2003), Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, University of Western Australia, Perth.

Matthew has participated in number of artist-in-residency programs, including Artsource/Christoph Merian Foundation Basel residency in Switzerland (2004) & Artsource/Artspace Sydney (1999) and the International Art Space Kellerberrin (2001). A monograph of his work was published in 2006 to accompany his Backwater exhibition at the Holmes à Court Gallery. Hunt has been awarded a number of New Work grants from the Australia Council and Department of Culture and the Arts and recently received a Mid Career Fellowship from DCA in 2009. Hunt collaborates with Robert Cook to produce the fanzine Acquittal Report.

Hunt’s work is represented in the following collections: The Art Gallery of Western Australia, The University of Western Australia, Murdoch University, Curtin University, The City of Perth, Artbank, The Christoph Merian Foundation (Switzerland), The Kerry Stokes Collection and many private collections.
