In Dante's Divine Comedy~ Purgatorio Canto V, Dante discovers that the souls on the lower most level of Purgatory are those souls who repented at the last moment of their lives. One soul in particular, Buonconte da Montefeltro, tells of a struggle between the forces of good and evil over his soul at his death. He explains to Dante and Virgil that he was saved because he died with Mary's name on his heart and a true repentance. Whenever I encounter Dante's Divine Comedy his words instantly find form in my mind and they urge me to give them life. This was how my mind visually interpreted this encounter. I chose to tatoo "Hodegeteria" on the grateful souls heart because in the Byzantine rite this title means literally, "She who leads the way".
