One of my daily 19-minute paintings during the Bahá'í Fasting month, inspired by this quote from the Bahá'í Writings: "...fasting is conducive to spiritual awareness. One's heart grows more tender, one's thoughts become purely focused on the remembrance of God. Such awareness and awakening leads inexorably to spiritual progress."
'Abdu'l-Baha, Star of the West, vol 4, no. 18, page 305
As the sunflower turns to follow the sun, we keep our thoughts on God and try harder to avoid those unkindnesses, bad habits, and thoughtless verbal slips like backbiting and gossip that poison the entire community. We lift our hearts in praise of others as much as possible, find small and large ways of serving others, and focus on our own walk of Faith and not those of others, God willing!
"Do not despair!
Work steadily.
Sincerity and love will conquer hate.
How many seemingly impossible events are coming to pass in these days!
Set your faces steadily towards the Light of the World.
Show love to all; ‘Love is the breath of the Holy Spirit in the heart of Man’.
Take courage! God never forsakes His children who strive and work and pray!
Let your hearts be filled with the strenuous desire that tranquility and harmony may encircle all this warring world.
So will success crown your efforts, and with the universal brotherhood will come the Kingdom of God in peace and goodwill."
