Title: "Incarcerated Fire Fighters "
“Incarcerated Firefighters” (Artist Statement)
For the past few years , I’ve been immersed in creating a large-scale painting honoring the incarcerated men and women in California who risk their lives battling wildfires. These individuals earn as little as one to five dollars a day to confront walls of flame and smoke—protecting homes, families, and entire communities. Yet when they return home, many face closed doors and systemic barriers that deny them meaningful employment and dignity.
This work stands as both a tribute and a protest—a visual reminder of sacrifice, inequity, and the ongoing struggle for redemption. It asks us to see the humanity behind the uniform, to recognize that courage does not disappear with a prison sentence, and to imagine a society where those who serve deserve a second chance to rebuild their lives.
