titled : “ el sueno del Toro” 84x48” oil on canvas ..
this painting is inspired by a dream i Had a while ago .. ive been unpacking this dream with my therapist for months .. In my dream i am in a desert & out a nowhere a Large bull appears and charges toward me , snarling and roaring with anger . I froze . right before it hit me everything went Pitch Black for a few seconds & then the light reappeared and I was beak to beak with the bull . I could feel its breath on my face . I was terrified . Then the bull just turned around and walked away …
why did it spare me ? is what ive been asking my therapist..what does this dream symbolize i wondered ? and of course, my therapist challenged me to make a painting about it. it may be cathartic she said ….and since i prefer abstract expressionism for this work i chose to dominate the canvas with Vermilion red - considered the prince of reds & adored by artists the world over ❤️. Next I chose to use Pitch Black - its the most fearsome kind of darkness but also symbolizes elegance & power - Pitch black was described in the book of the dead ( as black as the blackest night & men wander helpessly there in)
next was Acid yellow -inspired by my need to rave & i was pumping house music while making this ) next was Emerald green - inspired by a shakespeare comment in othello that i also discussed with my therapist ( but wont elaborate here ) , next was Cerulean Blue - which symbolizes sadness & a nod to Pablo Picasso - picasso blue period began after his friend Casagemas killed himself in front of him . finally i violently applied Titanium white which is the most brilliant white an artist can use ….
now I just sit and stare at this painting every morning and think about what that dream was really about …. #art #abstractexpressionism #catharsis #dreams #colortherapy
