I painted this a couple of months ago in April while sheltering in place due to Covid-19. Like most people I was feeling somewhat frustrated by the inability to get out, to travel, to visit friends and relatives. This forced isolation kept me in the studio, but it also forced me to think outside the box.
This thought process led me to experiment with color and composition - to take liberties, as it were.
Usually my color combinations extend all the way to the edge of the canvas, but this time I kept the blue color field in the center, isolated from the edge of the canvas. It floats loosely in the center, but it is also held in place by the applied strips of painted denim and burlap.
This acrylic painting is consistent with my most of my current body of work, in that it combines loose organic layers of saturated color with linear bars or fields of color applied on top.
