A. DeBacker & J. Degey, Bruxelles. Belgian poster for Cecil B. DeMille’s silent movie epic of the story of Jesus Christ. The graphic focuses on the Via Dolorosa, with the film title presented simply, using an antique font, suggesting a sense of reverence. The Christ figure bears some resemblance to H.B. Warner, the English actor who played Jesus in the film, but is not an exact likeness. Producers Distributing Corporation, which is featured prominently in the poster, was the distribution arm of Cecil B. DeMille Pictures, the short-lived studio DeMille created to produce his own films in the late 1920s.

  • Subject Matter: religious film
