This piece was created on commission by Blase Schauer, OP for the Newman Center chapel in Las Cruces, NM. According to a description by the artist, the cross is made of ponderosa pine charred black with a blow torch. The corpus figures are of dipped lead cast in plaster for the negative. The patina was achieved by the action of nitric acid and copper nitrate scrubbed on the surface and heated with a blow torch.
