Halcyon Days

"Halcyon Days" is based on a reference photo I took years ago (in the "before times") from the window of my yoga studio, harkening back to a time and place where I found grounding. My color palette is inspired by Diebenkorn's Ocean Park series and the simplified geometric shapes reflect the magical Los Angeles light that so often catches my attention. Painting this during the pandemic, with an appreciation for little moments around me, brought me joy.

In 2021, I created a series of small paintings around the theme: "When life gets you down, look up".

The idea is that no matter what is happening around us, one can take a beat to look up. Take a breath, appreciate the colorful sky or unexpected light brightening a rooftop. Interrupt the constant barrage that is everyday modern life. This may be the catalyst to find purpose, meaning or acceptance in the face of challenges, uncertainty, differences and loss.

These paintings offer a moment of stillness and hope, a reminder to take time daily to look up and breathe in.
