Like many of my subjects, I've taken creative liberties away from my source photo for this painting, including making the building pink. It has a sort of floating quality among the clouds, like a strange spaceship, that I find fascinating. There's a lovely contrast between the grandeur of the whole and the details within, especially those in the windows.
The title comes from a travel magazine in which I read a wonderful description of a sunrise off the coast of an island and these colors, "Azure and Salmon" were used. At a time when travel was all but impossible, I conjured up this mental image for myself, even while looking at this strange, industrial yet pink building - my own inner poetry and imagination at work.
