In winter 2023 I began a series of drawings based on tracing the paths of Venetian blind shadows on a southern exposure in morning light.
Solar Transit is the provisional name of the series. The drawings pull from direct experience as a listener. Associating a sundial effect with deep listening a la Pauline Oliveros. This work was made while listening to an online presentation by Rocky James, Penelakut Tribe of Vancouver Island, concerning queer culture within the context of truth and reconciliation between settler and indigenous communities. The drawing contains a handwritten note, which is a quote from James: "we belong to our longing for something beyond the normative regime."
