A figurative ink study from 1990, predating the Ontario landscapes Chris became known for. It belongs to a period of serious draftsmanship — his surviving sketchbooks from European travels in the 1990s are full of studies after the masters (Picasso’s Guernica among them) alongside architectural sketches from his travels. Atlas, with its mythological subject of bearing the weight of the sky, reflects that same engagement with classical and archetypal imagery
