sea urchin, acrylic, sea urchin needles and pigment on panel Druids considered sea urchins magical snake eggs. An exceptionally good find plus this bit of lore inspired this piece. Excerpts in ogham, an early medieval alphabet used primarily to represent the "Old Irish" language, are the markings throughout the panel. Ogham is sometimes referred to as the "Celtic Tree Alphabet.‚" These are excerpts from the Book of Ballymote. Sea urchin needles scatter across the panel, as a snake form undulates nearby. The exploding pattern depicted in the lower right hand corner is found not only in sea urchins, but throughout nature (think of the dandelion seed head right before it gets blown away!).
