Who in the painting are the Outcasts? There are tall, thin, large headed figures in the foreground. And there are small, simple figures in the background. Opposites, most true! Is it the outcasts who meekly stand back as the socially sanctioned ones enjoy the world? Or is it the outcasts, being pushed out, who gladly flee, leaving those that love convention far behind?
Which ones are the Outcasts?
What do you think?

‘Outcasts’ is about contrasts.
In this piece, I painted the canvas in a traditional way, but I accented specific areas with a nontraditional technique. I masked off these areas and applied a thick impasto, smoothed out with a large palette knife. These areas dried for many days. During the drying time, I took a block of linoleum and hand carved an organic design. I then began to print, not with ink, but with a thinned oil paint, over the impasto areas. After it dried, I then super imprinted the areas a second time. This change in techniques helped me to reinforce the idea of contrasts for ‘Outcasts’.
