- Behavioral Health Clinicians PMHI
This mural depicts a young girl embracing the day. Her arms are outstretched as she breathes the mountain air, and her feet stand firmly on the ground. Her presence resonates in the beautiful landscape. She is strong, brave, and resilient. The image is inspired by the strength, bravery, and resiliency of the patients we serve. Symbols within the image also reflect the language and skills we promote for mental health and wellness- deep breathing, grounding, mindfulness, and safety.
Contributors to this mural were Behavioral Health Clinicians from the Pediatric Mental Health Institute (PMHI). PMHI has a number of departments and locations throughout the Children's Hospital system. Clinicians from the Emergency Department, Inpatient Unit, and the Outpatient Team were primary participants in this project. The mural's four canvases were divided amongst the different teams. Clinicians recognized the metaphor of working on a part of a whole, noting that "our roles may share the same title, but we all work in unique ways toward the common goal of helping youth and their families." Clinicians noted that the process of layering the medicine caps was metaphorical for the multifaceted ways in which we help families.
Clinicians found this project healing, peaceful, and joyful. Clinicians reported, "it provided some fun we didn't know we needed." Teammates were better able to connect and let go of stress together. Much like the experiences of our patients and families, we found comfort in the process of being creative and collaborating together toward this shared purpose.
