Popsicles remind me of summer and naivety.
When I was younger I use to share popsicles with my dog Jeb. Jeb was a very sweet yellow lab who loved to enjoy refreshing summer treats. I wasn’t so young that I didn’t realize how gross it was considered to share licks of a delicious banana or rich root beer. Of course, I didn’t even know what bacteria was or what it did. Neither did Jeb. As I got older, I stopped sharing my popsicles with Jeb, and I wonder if he noticed. With age came the external pressure and voices of others’ opinions ringing in my ears. Their opinions inhibited my ability to speak the same language as Jeb. In dog world sharing popsicles isn’t gross; it’s just an act of love.
Popsicles remind me of love and carefree living. When the noise of the world becomes too much, I slow down and enjoy a cool treat and think of Jeb. For just a brief moment, I live in dog world and live life at my own pace.
