Petai is a familiar ingredient in Southeast Asian cooking. It is known for its strong smell and distinctive shape. I first saw these hanging in bunches for sale at the roadside when we went on trips outside KL. These were purchased at a local wet market. Painted at scale up close, the beans become more about light, shadow and color.
