This is my plein air painting of a 1912 stone fountain called "Enfants à la Fontaine" from artists scupltorRené Bertrand-Boutè, which now resides at the Rockery Park in Ottawa. Now referred to as the Soper's Fountain, the original was awarded the "Prix de Paris" in 1912 where it was purchased by Mr Soper then, in 1960, it was donated to the National Capital Commission in Ottawa. It has been "living" in the park ever since, only 3 of the 5 original children are left. The feeling the sculptor transmitted of the 2 children seeking warmth which cold water was pouring on their heads from above translates to us even today. Being a grandmother of twin boys, this fountain really called to me and I just had to capture the boys!
