I have been working with clay since 2001 when I took a High School ceramics class on a whim. I have loved the process ever since. After High School I attended Guilford College where I received my B.A. in Visual Arts with a focus in ceramics and a minor in Education studies. After college I have continued to create my personal work as Wild Rumpus Ceramic arts. I have also taught ceramics and visual arts over the past 13 years in various schools and art centers including: Art Alliance Greensboro, The CVA, The YWCA of High Point, New Garden Friends School, Watauga High School and Craft Enrichment at Appalachian State University.
I have always been drawn to the texture and tactile quality inherent to working with clay. Whether I'm doing sculpture, painting or straightforward functional work, I allow the clay to inform the mood and characteristics of the piece, be it a slumped over figure or a face that contorts to match the shape of a wheel thrown pot. As of late I've started eschewing glazes in order to let the surface and texture of the clay speak for itself, creating a tactile quality that invites the user to physically feel and interact with the pottery I create.
