Allison Daniel (she/they) is a potter living and working from her home studio in Seagrove, NC. She spent summers exploring the landscape on her family's farms rich with iron heavy clays in Rowan and Davie Counties. She received a BFA in Sculpture and Ceramics from UNCG in 2015 and worked as a pottery instructor for the CVA for 6 years before becoming the Clay Factory Manager at STARworks Ceramics. She is now a full-time potter and part-time construction worker/handy person. Aside from making pots, she enjoys gardening, baking, and playing video games. Her favorite television shows include Hunter x Hunter, The Great British Baking Show, and Columbo.
I'm drawn to the malleability and accessibility of clay. I spent most of my early years as an artist focusing on painting and graphic design, but for the past few years I have focused my attention on making my utilitarian forms as pleasurable to use as possible. All of my pots are made with North Carolina clay from STARworks Ceramics and clays I dig and process myself. I'm now formulating my own clay body made from clay harvested from my family's farms and am currently testing what I dig and process as a slip. The clay bodies I work with, how the pots are fired, and various textile patterns are what influence my work.
