27 Stained Glass Sky – Weather vane
Often when I look at a painting my mind takes a trip. Something in the painting sparks a memory or an association and my mind follows like the obedient dog on the weather vane. I like the image of the dog and master setting out for a trip in the direction he's pointing, North East today, tomorrow it will be a different way depending on the whims of the winds.
But, like in life, we chose a path and follow it. Whether our choice is guided by a map, compass or the winds, it is our choice.
The painting I'd planned for 27 was to be a stained glass window, but it doesn't look as exciting when viewed from outside looking in. Stained glass needs light to be seen. So, I decided on the weather vane. The man and dog, cute but purposeful. Here is a metaphor I can relate to. I decided to make the sky rainbow coloured. There were some colours in the original photo from where I drew inspiration. I took liberties and allowed salt to work its magic. The result was virtually there with the first painting. I darkened the roof and chimney keeping some spaces to show the under painting and give some depth and texture to the shadows.
Sometimes simple is best.
