17 Palladian Arch
Underneath the Arches
Some of the paintings have been harder to do than others. The reference photo for this was taken in full sunlight which drained the contrasts on the façade and darkened the archway. Consequently details were hard to see, An occasion when I wish my photographic skills were more advanced.
The pale stonework needed some colour so I added pink, dark green and some iridescent pink to tone it all down. (I've become a lot bolder in later pieces)
The archway is capped with a stone carving of a woman gazing serenely upon all who enter the tunnel. Inside the details are shrouded in darkness with a few white lines to hint at what they are. A pair of columns stand either side. The paint makes them look like there are graffiti tags zig zagging down, trailing away near the bottom.
The Seventeenth of a series of 50 paintings all 7" x 7" detailing architecture features from buildings in the Buckinghamshire area. Part of a challenge to create 50 paintings in 2018.
