Before the urban slang of what a wilding is, there first came a plant, originally cultivated, that now grows wild; an escapee. That’s a description that fits this work. If gardening a wildflower garden is an escape, then what better way to survive a pandemic? There’s a soft, well lit spot along the fenceline that inspired this piece, which is filled with cosmos, black eyed susans, phlox and many other species. I’m especially interested in the mysterious outer-space like insects, seeds and pods that float through and above the plants and can’t help but compare them to the galaxies.
