Early morning light falling on this leaning tree drew me in. This was painted, en plein air, one gorgeous spring day at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Something about the shadows on that tree grabbed my eye as they danced across the rough surface. This is the French Broad River, which is exactly as it sounds: big, fast moving, broad. Kayakers, hikers and horseback riders passed by as I painted away.
