Driving along Buck Mountain road as the sun was starting to head down, I pulled off the road as I had to get this sight down. The repetitions of the rows, the vines themselves, the distant Blue Ridge Mountains compelled the composition. The most stunning view of the day - the vines, the mist in the Blue Ridge mountain valleys, the way the sun blasted the foliage. I pulled out my easel and paints, knowing it was something that would come to my dreams. When working on site, I quickly place the major darker shapes such as the trees.
If you've ever been to the Blue Ridge mountains, you're familiar with their beauty and mistiness. The rhythm of the vineyards with the soft mountains in the background set the stage for this painting.
