from Twenty Masterpieces in Etching (The Life of George Washington), New York: American Art Foundation

The New York Times, WASHINGTON, Sept. 14., 1932 —Twenty original etchings in which scenes from the life of Washington are illustrated by eminent artists in America were presented to President Hoover today by John Taylor Arms of New York, president of the American Society of Etchers.

"Thank you. I appreciate the honor," President Hoover said, in accepting the portfolio, which has been more than a year in preparation, and which Mr. Arms declared to be "the most unique and significant publication of its kind in the history of graphic art in America."

"Months of research and effort have been devoted to each subject, with the result that every individual print is both an authoritative historical document and a distinguished work of art," he said.

The collection, he declared, is regarded by art critics and historical authorities as the most outstanding artistic project which has grown out of the Bicentennial activities, and according to Charles Arthur Hoppin, an authority on the history of the Washington family, is "equal to a thousand lectures."
