Martin Boyle began his education enrolled at Miami University in Oxford, OH, and then transferred to the Cleveland Institute of Art, where he studied printmaking and geometric abstract painting under influential teachers like Carroll Cassill, Ed Mieczkowski, and Julian Stanczak. At Yale graduate school, he learned printmaking from Gabor Peterdi and classical painting from William Bailey, while engaging in discussions on painting 3D space with Al Held. After Yale, he moved to New York City, painted, worked part-time in advertising illustration, and explored architecture at The Cooper Union. He exhibited his work in major cities worldwide and, after 13 years on the East Coast, returned to Cleveland to teach art part-time and create icons for a church. His interest in Greek vases influenced his classical painting style. After teaching design at Case Western Reserve University for six years, he earned a Master’s in Art Education and taught high school art in Boston for a decade before settling in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, to focus on his art.
