Acrylic and Chinese ink on watercolor paper, mounted on gessoed hardboard and varnished with an archival permanent varnish.
This frame was custom built by me. The wood of this frame is milled down from lumber from old out-buildings in Vaughn, MT. I picked this piece of lumber for the soft grays in the wood with just a hint of warm wood beneath to catch the dun in the painting. I also like the aged softness of it because this painting feels like a frosty foggy morning that’s just beginning to clear and the sun is poking through. The horse are taking a morning sun beam nap after a chilly morning breakfast before heading out for the day for a routine of foraging.
