I was inspired to paint this vignette from inside a small church in Porto, Portugal. The ancient room was dark except for light breaking through a very simple and colorful stained glass window. The light lit up and reflected off a smooth level of rock and stone , filtering down to light up a small bouquet of carnation-like flowers placed in a vase in a baptismal basin. I loved the dramatic effect of the light as it trickled down to the flowers below.

I tried to capture the dark dank feel of the old stone church lit up only by a window to heaven.
