I have painted my nail yellow to #EndTheSilence about the sexual violence committed by Hamas against women, men and young and little girls and boys during the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel and the sexual violence continuing against the 130 remaining hostages.
Hadassah is an organization devoted to helping women find their voices. It is an organization that speaks (loudly) for those who cannot speak for themselves.
This is especially important now in the face of rape and the silent acceptance of rape as a weapon used by Hamas against Israel. I have always felt very strongly about these issues and how they affected women and children. As a public defender for 23 years, my work involved speaking for those who could not speak for themselves, sometimes due to lack of education, poverty, age, or physical, mental or emotional challenges. I no longer practice law but it is still time to speak out.
My nail is yellow to show solidarity with my sisters and brothers, my family, in Israel. It is my cry of alarm, but also a sign of hope.
I painted my nail yellow and I painted five paintings ( all within the past week) reflecting this initiative. The proceeds from the sale of any of these five paintings will be donated to Hadassah.
