This painting is from a trip to Istanbul showing the inside of one of the temples there. The room had hundreds of these globes of light following the winding stairs up three flights. It was awe-inspiring, chaotic with all those many globes but also beautiful and calming standing in the soft light. I used several photographs from that temple to come up with the placement of the globes that I liked best and that I felt might make the most attractive composition.
