On Rosh Hashanah (which this year begins at sundown, Sunday, September 25th). Jews traditionally share apples dipped in honey to offer and share hopes for a sweet new year.  According to some authorities, the tradition may date back 1400 years.

This painting depicts red and green apple slices prepared for dipping and shows contrasting colors, shapes, and textures.  Perhaps paradoxically, the center of the painting is not an apple but rather a half grape atop an apple slice.
