This painting is from a photo I took a couple of years back. Part of what I paint has to do with a longing for community and connection. This painting depicts a sense of loneliness, from not having those things.

I chose to use that image, realizing later on that three disability placards hang on the wall. Part of what I paint has to do with a longing for community and connection; there is isolation that comes with being unwell. These painting depicts a sense of loneliness, from not having those things.
The first two paintings, Waiting in Green and Waiting in Blue are rendered like the original photo. Waiting in Gold and Waiting in Red is from creating abstractions from that same photo, but rotated. If you look closely, the main diagonal line separating the wall from the floor runs through both.
“Waiting” has another meaning, of patiently waiting for things to come, as we are doing and being, from states of recovery, nurturing and strengthening.
