Interested in the interrelatedness of the spiritual and the physical, I often draw parallels between physical landscape and our inner world. I explore the ways in which that which can be observed can give clues to the vast expanse that lies beneath, out of sight.
The Crystalline Landsacpe series is created on mineral paper. I have been exploring different substrates for painting and experimenting with fluid paint mediums. My intention is to use the flow of pigment in fluid on a two-dimensional surface to illustrate the transfer of contaminants via ground water, which can travel to great depths within the bodies of rock that make up the earth beneath our feet. While the flow of one colour into another where different “bodies” of water meet creates beautiful forms on the paper, it also serves to illustrate just how far and deep contaminants can be carried via groundwater flows, from our activities on the surface of the earth.
