This is one of the last two paintings worked on for the current exhibit, figments and fragments.
I've been painting birds on and off for a very long time, though I've never done any quite this large. Generally, many of the birds I've done have been roughly life-size. Here I wanted to try to capture a different feeling, a different sense of energy in these last two paintings, first by making the birds monumentally large (at least compared to their actual size) and also to give them a different feeling by the marks, line work and tension between what seems finished vs unfinished.
