Created in 2007 this dragonfly was painted black in 2008 after the Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill. A BP sign was attached and the sculpture was installed for a time in Fairhope Alabama as a protest.
From 20016-2020 the sculpture was installed in downtown Fairhope in front of Soul Shine Yoga Studio, sans the BP sign.
In 2023 the sculpture was leased by the City of Huntsville for a 2 year period. At this point the grass blade was painted green, and the dragonfly bright blue.
The changes this sculpture has undertaken over the years have been tied to the environmental health of where it was first created. It's current vivid colors represent a healing long in the making. Bruce has stated he hopes he never has to paint the sculpture black again.
