Edith Schiele was Egon Schiele's wife. Loyal to an artist who couldn't love one woman, 'Edith' reflects on his wife as a person, not a still life subject. In Egon's version, 'Edith with a Stripped Dress, Sitting,' is filled with color and looking towards the artist.
In 'Edith,' I chose to strip away color as a reflection of the duality of emotions.
Covering the drawing with a clear oil pastel created almost the opposite of a glow by softening and darkening the edges of the pencil.
