"Lizzo" is a modern-day remix of "Olympia" by Manet. In Manet's Olympia, a black servant is offering flowers to a white woman who is boldly looking looking into the camera. Here, Lizzo, a Black popstar looks boldly at the viewer as she sits in a more modern setting while a white woman brings her flowers in a traditional black and white maid's uniform. This mixes the modern with the past and juxtaposes how black people have risen to prominence in our society in comparison to Manet's painting where the Black figure in the photo is a servant.
