ARTIST'S NOTE: This original painting - "Palatine Night" - is a large, expressionistic abstract artwork on a wood panel of the light from a 'burning ghost ship' seen often at night on the Saturday between Christmas and New Year, in Block Island Sound. Therein are hints of the storm-tossed ship's masts and rigging lit by moonlight.
This piece is inspired by the John Greenleaf Whittier poem "The Palatine". Palatine is the name given to the historical shipwreck of the 'Princess Augusta' at Block Island, Rhode Island in 1738.
Piece is a favorite work of the artist.
