ARTIST'S NOTE: This original fine art painting - "Black Country (UK) Soot" is an impressionistic, landscape art piece on a large, birch wood panel depicting a dirty canal, sooty air, and towpath. Coal slag piles were often located near canal towpaths in the Black Country, an area with many coal mines in the West Midlands County (UK). The name of this area and this piece derives from the black soot spewed from early industrial factories and the blackened, coal dust and pollution-coated buildings and landscape around the mines and nearby canals.
